Installing HP Deskjet F2400 Series
Generic Drivers:    HP 550, HP 690C, hp deskjet 990C

Installation time for an A-I-O    20-25 Minutes (Approx. 30 in case of slow system)




Installation from Add Printers

Cases where these steps could be used are:

Lost / Damaged / No Media situation.
In XP, printer cannot be connected using Plug'n'Play. In this case, "Add a Printer" option from Control Panel need to be used.




  1. Go to Control Panel and double click on Printers
  2. Click on "Add a Printer" option.
  3. Choose the port as USB. (in case of USB connection)
  4. Choose a manufacturere and the Printer series for installing a generic driver.
  5. In case, there is no generic drivers available for a particular series of printer, look for the nearest series. For example, hp deskjet 990C is the series that we can use for HP Deskjet F2400.
  6. hp deskjet 990C would only allow print.
  7. Install the generic drivers.
  8. Don't use "Print Test Page" from the installation dialog box.
  9. Rename the Printer Name. (This will be helpful in case the customer objects to the name of the printer being other than the one that was bought.)
  10. Go to Printer Properties.
  11. Look for the Print Test Page option and Click it! Make sure the paper tray isn't empty.



Installation from CD
==================================


  1. In case the CD doesn't autoplay
  2. Explore the CD
  3. Look for the SETUP.exe file. Double click it!
  4. It will Open up a dialog box.
  5. Click Install.
  6. It will check the system for the installation.
  7. A dialog comes up. Click on Next.
  8. Agree to EULA Screen and Click on Next (Recommended install)
  9. It will keep on checking and preparing the system for the installation.
  10. Installation of s/w would commence as soon as the checking and preparation is over.
  11. A dialog is shown that asks to connect the USB cable to


Note:
An icon for "Digital imaging monitor" should be there in the notification area.
If it's not there in the notification area then it would not be possible to scan.


  1. Go to Services.msc from Run Dialog.
  2. Pml Driver HPZ12 needs to be enabled/Started from the Services

Work Around for Scanning


  1. Go to the folder location C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\
  2. Look for the file:    hpiscnapp.exe    -    This application is responsible for the Preview of the scanned Image.
  3. Place a shortcut for the exe file on the desktop and rename it suitably.
  4. Double the icon.
  5. Click "Scan New Picture" on left top.

Other Files in the same folder location as above:

hpqdstcp.exe    Support file for the Solution Center.

hpqdirec.exe    Responsible for the GUI of Solution Center.

hpqtra08.exe    Responsible for the HP Digital Imaging Monitor. The absence of this application won't allow scanning.

Specified Steps to be performed before troubleshooting

Taking registry backup.        C:\Windows\
Creating Restore Point.
Then start troubleshooting.

Go to the folder     X:\util\ccc    where X: is the CD/DVD drive path.
Uninstall_L1.bat        When Cx deleted printer icon/
Fax, Print Spooler, Digital Imaging Monitor,
Uninstall_L2.bat

Uninstall_L3.bat
All services would stop.

Uninstall_L4.bat


hposcrlr.bat        Removes registry entries.

HP local machine
C:\Windows\twain_32\escndv    -    to check what scanning driver is being used by the scanning device.

1    Error communicating with the scanning device!
2    HPCUE has encountered some problems and has to be closed!
HPCUE device discovery has encountered a problem!
Imaging Device function encountered a problem!
Solution Center Blank - No Device Connected!  {On clicking the solution center}
Scanner Failure!
The scanning device could not be found!
Unexpected internal error has occured! (The most tough of all)

Disconnect Printer
Check the functionality of the device
check what s/w features are installed - insert a cd and you would get a dialog box

goto binn folder.
Double-Click hpqdstcp.exe. Nothing would happen.
Double-Click hpqtra08.exe.
goto Services.msc
Check for the pmldriverhpz12. It should be enabled.

Run hpqdirec.exe - Will launch the solution center window. Check if all options are there.
Run hpiscnapp.exe - Click on the new scan and check if it working fine or not.

Remove Solution Center from Add/Remove Programs.

Insert

from add more s/w from the cd see if it is working fine or not.

Cx installed and uninstalled the programs. Device instance is created multiple times and if sol. Centre is not responding.


Check the above steps.
Create the shortcut for the scanning.
Delete this key    :    HKLM\Software\HP\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging\

Do a Customized installation (from the EuLA screen)
Uncheck all the options that are unecessary.
